Supreme Court hands Twitter, Google wins in internet liability cases

Supreme Court hands Twitter, Google wins in internet liability cases The Supreme Court on Thursday punted the issue of determining when internet companies are protected under a controversial liability shield, instead resolving the case on other grounds. The justices were considering two lawsuits in which families of terrorist attack victims said Google and Twitter should be held liable for aiding and abetting ISIS, leading to their relatives' deaths. Google asserted that Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, enacted in 1996 to prevent internet companies from being held liable for content posted by third parties, protected the company from all of the claims. But rather than wading into the weighty Section 230 dispute — which internet companies say allows them to serve users and offers protection from a deluge of litigation — the court Thursday found neither company had any underlying liability to need the protections. In the Twitter case, conservative Justice Clarence Thomas wrote for a unanimous court that the plaintiffs’ allegations fell “far ...

Athletic, youthful Lynx are ready to ‘turn some heads’ this season

Athletic, youthful Lynx are ready to ‘turn some heads’ this season Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve has a different perspective entering this WNBA season, which opens Friday for Minnesota at home against Chicago. After years of chasing championships and playoff appearances, Reeve’s sights are centered now on progress. That is an approach befitting a coach and president of basketball operations, who is entering a new era with a talented, but young roster.“Looking at it that way, I’m less focused on the outcomes that people focus on — the wins and losses. And we don’t want to do that to this team. I think what we’re super locked in on is how do we immerse ourselves as coaches into their preparation, their improvement. And that’s what we’re going to base (success) on.”That seems to suggest Reeve doesn’t expect to contend for anything of consequence this season. And that seems to fall in line with what national prognosticators are predicting for this Lynx team. Outlets consistently slot Minnesota somewhere in the No. 7-10 range out of the league’s 12 teams. After trying year, Twins’ Joey Gallo responds well in new environment

After trying year, Twins’ Joey Gallo responds well in new environment LOS ANGELES — Joey Gallo’s stay in Southern California last season was brief, so the list of highlights and achievements is short. Griffin Jax reminds him of one of those highlights — an opposite-field three-run home that he hit off the reliever — from time to time.“Probably one of the best moments in a short-lived Dodger career was against the Twins,” Gallo said. “It was pretty fun.”That short stint in Los Angeles provided Gallo a lifeline out of New York, a place where he admits “mentally, it was tough” for him. For that, Gallo said he was “really appreciative.” The slugger returned to Dodger Stadium, a place he called home for just a few months, this week in a much different — and better — place than when he arrived last August via trade.Given an offseason to reset, the version of Gallo the Twins have seen has been everything they could have hoped for when they signed him to a one-year free-agent deal. The outfielder/first baseman, who fouled a ball off his right shin on Wednesda...

So, what happens in August? So these are the questions we're asking right now. We are looking at every possible property in the State of New York to help have a relief valve for the City of New York."SUNY stated, "At Governor Hochul’s direction, we are assessing whether there are SUNY resources available to help with the arrival of asylum seekers."“First of all, I think it’s a big mistake. County Legislature Chairman Patrick Linger announced that the decision is effective as of May 17. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Greene County has stated that the State of Emergency has been proclaimed due to failed federal polices, in tandem with New York City mismanaging and underestimating the impact of inviting asylum seekers to the city. The county said this has resulted in New York City planning to relocate many migrants and asylum seekers to counties outside of and nearby the city, which includes Greene County. The county says they are incapable of receiving and sustaining the volume of migrants or asylum seekers that New York City intends on delivering. Greene County is already facing significant shortages of housing, medical care and transportation, as well as a growing homeless population. Alleged Kaylin Gillis shooter indicted for se...
